Rakaia Engineering’s imported & locally manufactured silos are designed for superior clean out & improved farmer safety. We have available an abundant range of silo options to cater for individual storage & feed requirements.

Silos for bulk grain storage range from 30 up to 300 tonnes, whilst hopper silos for crushed grain, palm kernel, pellets and other products range from 4 up to 40 tonnes.

A typical PROFEED system comprises one or more storage silos & feed lines, grain crusher, crushed grain silo, additives hopper, coreless auger delivery system & continuous stainless steel trays. All PROFEED systems are easily integrated with automatic Cow ID systems in rotary dairies.

Coreless auger options are:
Model 220 with a capacity of up to 7kg per min, Model 350 with a capacity of up to 45kg per min & Model 500 with a capacity of up to 100kg per min at 640kg/m3.

The capacity & bulk storage capacity of our entire range of PROFEED systems can easily be expanded at a later date to accommodate your supplement requirements.

How does the system operate?
As the 2 way limit switch comes into contact with the bail post it sends a signal to the auger motor which will run for a set time (this adjustable timer is set by the farmer). The supplement (along with molasses if required) is then released in front of the cow, two bails in from where the cow comes onto the platform.

Sensor PLC
The most popular choice by far, sensor PLC’s deliver a multitude of benefits including ease of operation & greater accuracy.

The system provides complete automation including miss a bail for “no cow in bail” & “second time around” with the flexibility of manual override.

Standard PLC
The main difference between the two PLC’s is that the system requires the operator to skip bails by manually operating the “miss a bail” button.

Profeed’s Herringbone feeding system works simply by the selected feed being transferred from the silo, into the dairy & filling individual dispensers on each side of the shed.

When the cows come in for milking the operator pulls a leaver situated for each side in the pit & the measured amount of feed is deposited in front of each cow. While the cows are feeding, the dispensers are automatically filled, ready for the next row of cows.

Model 350 - Premium Ration Dispenser
All ration adjustments are automatically managed from a push button control located in the pit. There’s no manual requirements - the fill augers and dispensing augers are automatically & simultaneously adjusted from this in-pit control,
making light work of altering ration requirements between am/pm milkings, or within a herd/row. Up to 8kg rating.

Model 220 - Standard Ration Dispenser
To alter ration volumes each individual dispenser is manually adjusted. Up to 5kg rating.

Available in two size ranges – 3.66m (12’) and 3.0m (10’).
Both ranges are transportable by road, fully built up.

REL 12’ silos

• Capacities from 33m3 to 60m3 – 27 tonnes to 48 tonnes wheat
• Cone bases come in 30º, 40º & 55º to suit all feed types from whole grain to palm kernel

•Capacities of 12m3 to 36m3 – 7.5 tonnes to 23 tonnes pellets
•Cone base is a standard 55º to suit all feed types

•The 3m silo is not “over-size” so does not need to be piloted.
•Means freight prices are kept to a minimum for areas some distance from Rakaia e.g. Southland, Central Otago, Westland and Nelson-Marlborough”
